One of the ornaments of our auction.
Extremely rare double thaler of the Duchy of Brzesko-Lgnicki.
A striking type, stamped with thaler stamps on a disc of double thickness.
First time in our offer. No listing in the archives of Polish companies and the international CoinArchives database. In the 2012 edition of Piotr Kalinowski's study, accompanied only by an engraving. Not long ago, in August 2023, a much more popular thaler made with the same pair of stamps sold for more than PLN 27,000 at a Künker auction (5165/394). Where Kopicki referred to the thaler with a grade of R3, and the double thaler as R7.
An issue from the time of the co-rulership of John Christian and George Rudolph. Made at the mint in Zloty Stok by the Breslau engraver, Hans Rieger, whose initials are placed in the rim of the reverse. Being the last two-coin of their co-presidency (not a clip).
Very nicely minted. A small trace of a skillfully removed pendant at 12 o'clock, otherwise unqualified.
Recommended.
Silver, diameter 41 mm, weight 57.2 g.
