A countryman of the collector-valued Duchy of Legnica-Brzesko-Volovsk.
A great rarity of the issue, which Saurma-Jeltsch attributed to the reign of Christian Volovsky. Friedensburg and Sager, among others, took a different view, drawing attention to the monogram visible on the reverse of this countryman. They attributed the AFM letters present to Anna Maria (1561-1605) - wife of Joachim Frederick. This duchess of Brest, after her husband's death in March 1602, was bequeathed the district of Olawa, and also exercised regency rule in the duchy on their behalf until her sons John Christian and George Rudolf came of age.
She is a reign absent from many of Silesia's outstanding collections. Aside from the issue of equally unparalleled halberds today, what remains of her are this counter and a series of coins dedicated to her - but already posthumous.
Obverse: crowned shield with Silesian eagle. In the rim: DES FVERSTENTHVMBS LIGNITZ.
Reverse: crowned AFM monogram. In the rim: VND * BRIG * RAITPFENIG.
Bronze, diameter 21.5 mm, weight 0.78 g.
