Lot description
Grade: VF+
Reference: Ivanauskas 3SB4-2 (RR), Kopicki 3355 (R6), Tyszkiewicz 20 mk

The Vilna mint in Batory's time minted almost all denominations, but only shekels and trojaks would be minted on a large scale. Other denominations such as denars, sixpences, pennies, not to mention thalers are among the items that are very rare and valued by collectors today.

Lithuanian pennies were minted in only two vintages under this king. Their issuance began in 1580 and was probably completed in early 1581.

The first vintage of King Stephen's Lithuanian pennies.

Variety with coat of arms shields on the reverse. With the Batory coat of arms separating the date.

Legend variant: LIT / LITVA.

A nice piece.
