A very rare variant of the Zamość two-złoty coin, distinguished by its capital letters, date, and a different design of the bomb on the reverse.
It is the higher of the two denominations minted in the Russian-besieged fortress of Zamość. This silver two-złoty coin, minted in a run of 7,830 pieces, was struck under wartime conditions using blanks made from an alloy of various types of church silver; by a crew inexperienced in coin production, is characterized by poor workmanship (shallow striking on irregularly shaped blanks, often with incomplete strikes).
Their issuance, which began after many months of siege, was intended to provide funds for overdue military pay and civil servants’ salaries.
This coin comes from the outstanding contemporary collection of Zbiór.com and is featured on its website.
