Capt. Karol Szopa, son of Stanislaw and Agnieszka née Trybus, born February 4, 1895 in Zrębin (Krosno County). Soldier of the 2nd Brigade of the Polish Legions, participant in the 1920 Polish-Bolshevik war. In 1921 he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Legions. He was promoted to the rank of captain on August 15, 1924. In September 1939 he served in the Reserve Center of the 2nd Legion Infantry Division. Awarded the Cross of Independence and the Silver Cross of Merit. Victim of the Katyn massacre.
