Although the election of Augustus the Strong's only son (from his rightful bed) was the beginning of the War of the Polish Succession, it lived to see a beautiful medal commemorating it. It is the work of Nuremberg medalist Peter Paul Werner, on which he depicted the personification of Polonia with the symbol of eternal life (the pomegranate) and the shield of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Very nice patina and beautiful luster preserved in the shielded parts of the background. No damage. Impressive.
Signed under the portrait (P.P. Werner fec).
Obverse: bust with hair loose, face seen from the right. In the rim:
D[ei] G[ratia] AUGUSTVS III REX POL[oniae] ET EL[ector] SAX[oniae].
By God's grace August III King of Poland and Elector of Saxony.
Reverse: a figure holding a pomegranate fruit in his right hand and in his left hand a shield with the Polish and Lithuanian coats of arms, at his side an eagle holding a crown over an elector's mitre, which lies on a pedestal. Inscription at the top: AVCTA AVGVSTI FELICITAS(Multiplied happiness of Augustus). In the section the year MDCCXXXIII.
