A large, impressive 17th century medal.
By J. Höhn (signature IH under the figure), minted to commemorate the arrival of John Casimir in Gdansk.
Obverse: a female figure, with a laurel wreath on her head, in her right hand she holds two hearts on a ribbon suspended above which is a wreath, in her left hand two shields, also bound with a ribbon; on one shield is the coat of arms of Poland, on the other the coat of arms of the city of Danzig. Higher up are two geniuses in clouds holding the Royal crown and palm branches; in the rim: COR REGIS CORDI GEDANI CONCORDIA JUNGIT.
Reverse: view of the city of Danzig with adjacent land. In the distance one can see the sea, on it sailing ships and the mouth of the Vistula River. In the section the inscription: DANTISCI COELO CONCORDIA TECTA CORONET. A crowned eagle is raised above the city. Above, the Divine Name in Hebrew letters in rays; in the rim:
NUMINIS ATQUE AQUILAE GEDANUM MUNIMNE TUTUM.
