Medal by A. Scharf commemorating Franciszek Smolka, minted on his 85th birthday (1895).
Franciszek Smolka was a prominent Polish political activist and lawyer. He was the only Pole to serve as president of the Austrian Council of State and Legislative Sejm. He was also the initiator of the construction of the mound of the 300th anniversary of the Union of Lublin in Lviv, for the construction of which he contributed 75,000 zlotys. Unfortunately, he died before its construction was completed. The funeral was a pretext for large patriotic demonstrations and the minting of commemorative medals.
