The fiftieth anniversary of the outbreak of the November Uprising was an occasion for patriotic manifestations and to emphasize devotion to the idea of an independent Polish state. On this occasion, a ceremony was held at the Polish Museum in Raperswil to present medals to veterans of the November Uprising. They represented the Star of Perseverance - an order established by the Sejm of the insurgents in 1831. The award, which, along with the Polish Military Cross (Order of Virtuti Militari, as it was called at the time), was intended as proof of bravery and dedication to the cause of Polish independence. In the end, the parliamentary resolution to establish the order was not implemented, but a design according to a drawing by the famous historian Joachim Lelewel was preserved. It was used by the designer of a commemorative medal issued for the fiftieth anniversary of the November Uprising.
This medal appeared in two stamp variants (according to the catalog of Ludwik Gocel's collection, even in three) and was offered as a national souvenir in Switzerland and Galicia.
The offered piece is one of the variants of the medal in question.
