A medal commemorating the coronation of Stanislaw Augustus, which was given to high-ranking guests present at the ceremony.
According to Raczynski,"the gold one was distributed only to the more prominent lords, the silver one was given to those with the rank of honor after that, while the third medal, minted in Torun, was distributed to the commune."
The author of the stamps was the London medallionist Pingo, who made them based on a portrait of the king taken six months before the coronation.
A very nice medal, with a preserved background mirror on the reverse.
Obverse: the king's head to the right, in the rim:
STANISLAVS AVGVSTVS D G REX POLONIAE M D LITH.
Reverse: royal crown with rays with the sentence in the rim HANC IVSSIT FORTVNA MERERI (fortune had it earned), in segment:
EL VN VOCE VII SEPT | CORON XXV NOV | MDCCLXIV
