The sixth behind the turbulent fate of Poland. Being an eyewitness to the struggles of Augustus the Strong, forced to relinquish the Polish crown to Stanislaw Leszczynski.
The 1706 LP sixpences are coins issued to pay for the troops of the Saxon party that were stationed in Lithuania. King Augustus' partisans - the Grand Treasurer of Lithuania Ludwik Pociej and the Russians - were responsible for their issuance.
The coin was minted in Moscow (erroneously once attributed to the mint in Grodno), as this was not possible in both the Crown and Lithuania at the time. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Scales of Ludwik Pociej and his initials (L-P), which were derisively translated in the era as the Weeping People, due to the rapid withdrawal of the coin from circulation and the losses of Augustus' supporters.
A rare and very interesting issue.
