The highest denomination of the first issue of banknotes from the Free City of Danzig. The issue is dated October 1922.
The 1,000-mark denomination was issued twice over the course of a few months (the second issue took place as early as March 1923). Due to the short timeframe, the existing graphic design was reused with some modifications. The 1922 banknotes, aside from a different color scheme, feature additional security features—the serial number appears twice, and a dry stamp is placed in the field below the Gdańsk coat of arms (instead of a red overprint).
