The second in a unique series of satirical “anti-speculation” medals.
Commemorating the high prices Warsaw struggled with at the end of World War I, which, as Tadeusz Kałkowski so beautifully put it, “were carefully cultivated by speculators known at the time as ‘paskarze.’”
This particular piece depicts workers holding a belt across the busts of a peasant, a Jew, and a nobleman. It is also interesting for the prices of goods prevailing at the time (expressed in Polish marks).
Unsigned.
Beautiful, with only a manufacturing flaw above the nobleman’s head.
Very rare, as only one medal from this series is commonly found—“In Praise of Speculators” featuring a pig.
Bleached brass, diameter 29 mm, weight 8.49 g
