A very interesting artifact that was part of the design process for the portrait of Józef Poniatowski on the 1919 5 zlotych banknote.
It is a letter from PWPW (the Polish Security Printing Works) to the French engraver Eugène Gasperini (Gaspe).
The letter states that, due to the urgent need to produce 20-złoty banknotes [1931], they are asking him to urgently prepare three printing plates (in three colors) for printing the reverse side of this banknote.
The issue of dates is interesting here. The letter was sent on February 16, 1931. The banknote was produced with the date June 20, 1931, and was put into circulation just before the end of 1931.
