A Gdańsk token from the time of Sigismund II Augustus.
From the collection of the Zbichorski family (most likely that of Kazimierz’s son).
Simple in design—decorated only with the city’s coat of arms flanked by the date (15-56).
One theory regarding their purpose was to monitor foreigners in the city. They were supposedly issued by the City Council and handed out as a kind of “visa” valid until the holder’s departure from Gdańsk.
Lead, diameter 20 mm, weight 6.90 g.
