One of the most beautifully preserved imitations/forgeries from the era of John II Casimir’s coronation that we have ever seen.
This is a very rare specimen, clearly even rarer than this king’s Lviv złoty coins.
It is a stylistically very attractive piece, indicative of the great skill of a homegrown mint master. The entire die, despite the lack of puncioning on certain elements, is very skillfully executed in terms of the legends, coats of arms, and their overall layout. The lettering is particularly noteworthy here. One of the few errors is the characteristic mistake in “POTIORQ3” (POTIORG3), which we recognize from another imitation die (A20/6982, die 3, sold for 1,151 PLN).
The coin retains its natural surface luster, which is accentuated by a charming, light patina.
The coin comes from an outstanding contemporary collection at Zbiór.com and is featured on its website.
Silver, diameter 31–31.5 mm, weight 6.54 g.
