A very rare medal of King Augustus II the Strong.
It is part of a series of medals commemorating the Peace of Altranstädt. This particular type has never been listed on the Polish auction market!
Its rarity is also confirmed by the catalog of Emeryk Hutten-Czapski’s collection, where it was assigned a rarity grade of R7. Other medals issued for these occasions were graded R and R4.
The Treaty of Altranstädt, signed on September 24, 1706, at the castle in Altranstädt, was the peace treaty ending the Third Northern War between King Augustus II of Poland and the Elector of Saxony, and King Charles XII of Sweden.
A medal with very fine detail. It features isolated, strong strikes along the rim and a black patina.
