A beautiful specimen of a truly rare portrait variety.
The obverse features a natural mirror finish on the background—vibrant and rare for coins of this year. The reverse has a mint finish. Slight tarnish on the background along the sides of the king’s figure, including a scratch behind him. A shallower strike in the center; otherwise, in perfect condition.
A distinctive variety featuring the monarch’s small, slightly bulldog-like head on a long neck and a small torso with a visible breastplate (which is usually covered by a cloak on coins of this type).
The shoulder guard has no visible cross-section. The brooch is in the form of an oval stone.
Found only sporadically at auctions.
