A type of brakteate that has not been noted in the literature for years.
Known from the treasure in Anusin and Zakrzewski's pre-war collection, now in the collection of the National Museum in Cracow.
Most likely listed for the first time at auction in Poland. Possibly the only piece available on the market.
A brakteat attributed to the Piasts of Greater Poland from the 12th / 13th century, with unspecified attribution.
Depicting a crowned bust, facing right, with a ball in front of the chin, in a pearl-colored border, with beaded ornaments all around.
As Witold Garbaczewski points out,"depictions of heads on Piast coins of the brakteat period are not among the dominant types, but they are iconographically strongly differentiated." The ruler in profile already appears on the denarii of Boleslaw the Brave (type from GENZDVN CIVITAS). The present bust has no exposed individual features such as beard, nose or hair.
The coin is bruised, but with the main part of the iconography intact. With an ink number from an old collection.
Rarity.
