A valued and sought-after denomination - a ducat of the time of Jan Kazimierz.
Ducat of 1663, minted before the several-year break in the issuance of this denomination in Gdansk.
A rare vintage, for the minting of which probably 3 obverse stamps were used - differing, among other things, in the royal bust. The present ducat is with the king with a clearly outlined jaw and rounded shoulder, distinguished also by the obverse inscription (with REX instead of its abbreviation R). The obverse has been in use for a long time, as it was struck between 1662 and 1666.
Coin with old background chiseling, with nice detail and partially preserved luster.
Ex. Dmitry Markov (1998).
Gold, diameter 25 mm, weight 3.53 g.
Obverse: bust of the king to the right, in the rim legend:
IOH CAS D G REX POL & SUEC M D L R P.
Reverse: coat of arms of Gdansk in a cartouche, on a console with a mint mark a lion, supported by two lions, above it a wreath and a plant, below it initials D-L (Daniel Lasse). In the rim the legend:
MON AUREA CIVITAT GEDANENS 1663.
