Uniqueness of numismatics has more than one name. Sometimes it's beauty, other times rarity. And this commemorative five-penny coin has them both. But it also has something unique. It comes from one of the co-organizers of the Convention it commemorates - Professor Dr. Zygmunt Zakrzewski.
This is the first time we can link a souvenir of the Convention of numismatists and medalographers, along with its prominent participant.
The piece comes from the family heirlooms of Jadwiga Zakrzewska-Kleczkowska (1910-1985), a numismatist and daughter of Zygmunt Zakrzewski. This is an actual memento of the participation of her father, a prominent medievalist and co-organizer of the convention - Professor Zygmunt Zakrzewski.
The commemorative 5 pennies were minted at the State Mint for the participants of the convention, which took place on June 3, 1929 in Poznan. It was an important event that brought together the cream of historical circles of the time. Representatives of the most important museums, universities, historians, artists or numismatists. Its importance is well captured by a multi-page account, published in a diary available in the Wielkopolska Digital Library.
In addition to descriptions of the events, papers, we read from it how important a role Zygmunt Zakrzewski played in the organization of the congress. He was responsible for the numismatic exhibition. He sat on the Congress committee, alongside such names as Mękicki, Bisier, Berezowski. He delivered two papers, including the most important one, at the opening. He also hosted a social gathering, at his home, about which it was written: "... dragged out the social evening in the hospitable professor's house until helium beyond midnight. It will undoubtedly remain for the participants in good memory".
Beautiful mint condition.
The unique character of this piece is complemented by the original, rare Mint envelope.
