One of three trial designs for a new type of gold coin. Made by a prominent medalist of the era - Joseph Aumiller.
A variety with a wreath around the numeral of the denomination made of oak leaves.
A distinctly rarer version without the PRÓBA inscription.
Work on a new type of gold coin began in 1928, when, as Jerzy Chalupski writes, silver one-zloty coins began to be withdrawn from circulation (which lasted until the end of 1932). Eventually, Aumiller's designs remained only in the form of samples, and the first nickel zlotys of Mieczyslaw Kotarbinski's design were put into circulation, just a year later.
An edition of 35 pieces.
Lightly cleaned, with very nice detail.
Nickel, diameter 24.8 mm, weight 7.03 g.
