Lot description
Grade: UNC/AU
Reference: Romańczyk GGd1540-22 (R), Kopicki 7324, Kurpiewski 486 (R)

The mint town penny of Sigismund the Old. In terms of the intensity of the mint mirror, the most beautiful we have had. You can see the stamp refreshment in the background. Beautiful.

1540 is a vintage closing a long sequence of successive minting of pennies in Gdansk (years 1530-1540). Being the penultimate penny of this city from the time of King Sigismund, as a small batch of these coins is still minted in the year of his death (1548).

A variety with a "bulldog" bust of the king (type 7 by G. Romanczyk), in a variety with an incomplete chin and a decorated crown rim.

The titulature ended with PRVS (star).

This is a coin worth seeing in person to appreciate its condition.
