One of the rarest pennies of Ducal Prussia, in excellent state of preservation.
It is Albrecht Hohenzollern's first penny and the first penny of the newly formed state.
After years of wars with Poland, the secularization of the Teutonic Order in Prussia took place in 1525. On the basis of the Treaty of Cracow concluded between Sigismund I the Old and his nephew (the last master of the Order) Albrecht Hohenzollern, Ducal Prussia was created. Being, since the Prussian homage, a fief of Poland, the proof of which we can see in the form of a crowned shield with the monogram S (from SIGISMVNDVS) on the eagle's chest.
Albrecht's minting activities were extensive. He minted denominations from denarius to sixpence throughout his long reign. He minted pennies between 1529 and 1558, but it is these two border vintages that are the rarest.
The 1529 vintage is also important in typological terms. It is the only penny with this type of portrait (narrow, high head, without decorative armor epaulettes). The only one with a partially Gothic font (letters A).
