An unquestionable rarity.
A yearbook known only from a few collections. For hundreds of years, it has been unanimously rated as a great rarity by the makers of catalogs and price lists. From Hutten-Czapski, who gave it a grade of R8, to Tyszkiewicz, who valued it at as much as 100 marks! (emphasizing with a question mark that he had not seen such a coin), to contemporary publications, including the current catalog of the coins of Sigismund Augustus (where only one stamp with this date was described!).
This is also confirmed by its contemporary listings. This vintage, in the archives of Polish companies, has occurred only three times over the past 30 years. In 2001, 2017 and 2024. The last one, a beautiful one, was sold for 76,800,- zloty!
Its rarity is due to the successive extinction of the issue of this denomination by the new tenant of the mint - Felix. After taking over the mint in 1555, he first curtailed and then discontinued their issuance until 1559 (a year after receiving permission to lower the monetary rate). During this period, he focused production on half-pennies and, to a lesser extent, denarii.
A natural circulated piece with a bend mark.
