A very rare, first vintage half-penny of King Sigismund Augustus.
The vintage starting the issuance of the denomination that dominated the minting of this ruler. It was issued for more than 20 years, on a large scale, to which it owes its great variety of varieties and collector interest today.
A type with the king's titulary (SIGIS AVG REX...) affixed to the side with the Pogon. Occurring only on a portion of the coins from this one year.
Variety with legends ending in L * / LITVA (triangle).
The oldest type of Pogo and Eagle appearing on this denomination.
Its rarity is well illustrated by Tyszkiewicz's price list, which valued it at 30 mk, and by the next one, when the issue started on a large scale, at only 1 mk.
