Here is one of the oldest coins in the history of Lublin.
Silver trojaks are the only denomination minted during the entire period of operation of this mint. When, in 1595, the Grand Treasurer of the Crown, Jan Firlej, commissioned the opening of a new crown mint, in Lublin, he entrusted this task to Kacper Rytkier. And it was this experienced mintmaster, signing with the gmer "Axe", who was responsible for minting the first coins in the city.
As Dariusz Marzęta, author of the Catalogue of Lublin Trojaks, describes this period,"Rytkier's stay in Lublin was, however, quite short". - estimating it at only 4-8 weeks!
Only a group of trojaks, rare today, was minted during this period, distinguished by one type of portrait and a shield with "Axe" on the reverse.
Very nice state of preservation. A coin with a lot of mint freshness.
