Lot description
Grade: VF+
Reference: Paszkiewicz T.1.8, Kopicki 8983 (R6)

This brakteat is considered to be the oldest coin of the Teutonic Knights. As Witold Garbaczewski points out,"The symbolism of this composition is clear - knights with a cross on their cloaks carry the banner of Christianity to the pagan lands of the Prussians."

In the former literature, its issuance was attributed to the mint of Chelmno, which Boris Paszkiewicz disagrees with, clearly indicating Torun.

Rare item.

Silver, diameter 23 mm, weight 0.24 g.
