The rarest two-zloty coin of the Second Republic.
The so-called "letter H", or 1924 two-zloty minted at the Birmingham mint. Called so because of the mint mark, characteristic of this establishment, placed after the date.
Its rarity is due to the Treasury's dissatisfaction with the quality of the coins delivered by this mint. The original contract was for 6 million pieces. After part of the first batch was put into circulation, it turned out that many of the coins had defects, a rare example of which we see today in the form of a crack in the disc going from the A in RZECZPOSPOLITA, through the entire wing of the eagle. As Jerzy Chalupski points out: the erroneously minted coins were ordered to be withdrawn from circulation, while the next batches (nearly 5 million pieces!) were cancelled.
The present piece nice for the type. Gently rubbed, but with good relief.
