The last of five selected works of medallion art of the Second Republic period from the old large collection we offer you in this auction.
This is a very rare medallion made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the November Uprising. Referring by its inscription to the date of its outbreak (November 29, 1830) and two famous battles: at Grochow (February 25, known asthe "Battle of Olszynka Grochowska") and Igania (April 10).
Unsigned, of unknown authorship.
According to a message from one of the collectors, it was supposed to be one of the designs prepared for a closed competition for a coin commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Uprising, which was won by the famous reverse with the "Banner." As we read in "Projects of Polish Coins" by Jacek Strzałkowski,"unfortunately, none of the models made for the above competition has survived in the mint."
