A rare medal by Holzhaeusser.
A medal of a reward nature from the Poniatowski era."For Faith, King and Law," as the motto on the reverse states, was awarded by the king to deserving individuals who did not yet have orders or the "Merentibus" medal. According to the author of Holzhaeusser's monograph:"it was minted presumably from the late 1760s up to and including the Third Partition, in two versions: with an ear piece (to be worn on a ribbon, probably blue) or without."
Lots of mint luster preserved. Nice.
Signed under the neck of the king (I.P.H).
Silver, diameter 40 mm, weight 29.43 g.
Obverse: head of the king with the royal binda in his hair, facing right. In the rim:
STANISLAUS AUSUSTUS D.G. REX POLONIAE M.D.LITUA.
Reverse: crowned, five-field shield of arms, surrounded by a ribbon with the Order of the White Eagle, above oak and palm branches. In the rim:
PRO FIDE GREGE ET LEGE.
