An impressive, very rare medal from the time of Peter I.
Original 18th century minting in silver of a coronation medal by Gass and Wachter.
Made to commemorate the coronation of Catherine I, which took place in May 1724 at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God in the Moscow Kremlin. With the immortalized scene of Peter I placing the imperial crown on the future tsarina's head.
Unlisted at auction in Poland. No listing in Coinarchives database.
Another version of this medal, by O. Kalaschnikov (also Diakov R2), was listed at the Künker 400 auction, sold for 36,000 euros.
