Numismatic of great rarity.
The highest denomination from the short reign of Tsarina Catherine I of only three years.
2 rubles in gold, a denomination minted in only 2 vintages (1726-1727), in very low mintages. The first was minted in an edition of 9156 pieces. The 1727 vintage was minted in an edition of 11,728 pieces, but this was the total mintage of the two-ruble denomination from the reign of Catherine I and more than three times that of her successor, Peter II.
The issue was interrupted by the death of the tsarina, which took place as early as May 1727.
Virtually unheard of in the trade.
No listing at auctions in Poland. Only 2 listings in the international largest Coinarchives database: the 2004 Numismatica Genevensis (price CHF 24,000) and the 2011 New York Sale XXVI (lot 1043, sold for $130,000).
