The second ever dated denarius of the city of Wschowa. Being one of the few coins minted in the Crown lands during the time of the last of the Jagiellons on the Polish throne!
The times of Sigismund II Augustus were the heyday of the Vilnius mint. Already after the death of Sigismund the Old, the Seimas enacted the closure of the mints in the Crown and Prussia, so that its minting was dominated by Lithuanian coins. The only exceptions were small issues of Gdansk, Elblag and just Wschowa, the latter being the only mint in the Crown. At the time, it decided to continue minting city denarii, in contrast to earlier years by starting to date them.
The issue of the city mint, as emphasized by the letters CWF above the shield - Civitas Wschova Factum (City of Wschowa minted).
Very rare.
First time in our history.
