A 500 zlotych note from 1944, from the first issue, with the mandatory serial number—in good condition, this is one of the rarest Polish postwar banknotes. This banknote has never appeared in our inventory in mint condition—this particular piece is the finest we have ever had.
This item is particularly interesting because it comes from a bundle of 7 such banknotes, folded in half and bound with a postmarked 1940 500 zlotych “Góral” band (the band is offered as a separate item here). This bundle was so unique that it inspired us to produce a more extensive video discussion, which we’ve included below.
This is the first and, so far, the only note from this bundle offered for sale, and it is also the first in terms of serial number sequence.
All pieces from this bundle were submitted for grading and all received a grade of 55, including 5 with EPQ and 2 without. All of these banknotes are in beautiful, natural condition, without any conservation treatments, lustrous, and bearing only a single, central half-fold.
This is a chance to acquire one of the finest 500-zloty notes from the first postwar issue known on the collector’s market.
