One of two color samples with a purple color dominant, which are distinguished by the execution of the reverse.
This is a piece with a consistent color reverse of the same hue.
Of all the samples, it was this color scheme that failed to find acceptance, ending up on none of the banknotes of this issue.
This is one of six very rare color swatches of the one-hundred-dollar note of issue '48 offered as part of the collection of Janusz Położenko, showing the process of arriving at the color that eventually found its way into circulation. So far, over 20 years of history, only single pieces of samples of this banknote have come to us. Only individual collections can boast a whole sequence - including the Lucow collection, in which these samples bear the high R8 rarity grade.
