2018 saw the premiere of a specialized catalog of King Wladislaw's crown halfpence. On this occasion, we invited its author, Sebastian Pawlikowski, to our Numismatic Session in the series"In numismatics you see as much as you know." We asked him to present the results of his many years of research, in-depth searches and analysis of this denomination. He then presented their typology, dating, varieties, ending his lecturewith a "collector's rarity" - a unique half-penny with a crown like that of a Prague penny. A coin that made a big impression on the collectors gathered at the time. Which has not appeared in trade since.
Today, almost 7 years after this publication, the chance to acquire this unique type at auction has arrived.
It is the rarest among all 14 types of crowns found on Jagiello's half-penny.
Distinctly different, it is distinguished by a richly decorated crown, with oval"precious stones". The cut is well known from the wide pennies minted in Prague, which conquered Europe at the time.
This is an ephemeral issue from the period of the mint's operation under municipal lease, dated 1396-1398, with the letter N being the initial of its manager - Nicholas Bochner.
The uniqueness of this type is well highlighted by the above-mentioned study. Sebastian Pawlikowski knew it from only one piece, where he knew the other types of crowns from several or even dozens of stamps (not pieces!).
