A distinctive thaler with an artistic portrait of the king, popularly known as an "armorial". A coin, the minting of which, in addition to its economic value, also had a prestigious significance. As Janusz Parchimowicz points out, "the king was very keen that the largest coin should be beautiful and fully reflect the solemnity of the royal majesty."
This is an important issue, with a rich history, the creation of which was preceded by a competition with a series of trials, resulting in stamps made by the outstanding medallicist of the era - Jan Filip Hollzhaeuser. You can read their story on the SAP Silver Coins blog, among others. The "armorer" itself, on the other hand, is a type of only one year. The richly detailed, even medal-like royal portrait proved too time-consuming for circulating coins, and was changed to a mere bust of Stanislaw Augustus in the very next vintage.
An outstanding piece of beauty. Very nice luster, especially on the reverse. Adding to the charming patina of the former collection. A jam on the rim at 9 o'clock.
