An early city ducat of Sigismund III in a very rare variety.
The 1598 vintage is one of the rare vintage ducats from the period of Philip Klüwer's administration (monogram over the Gdansk shield). Valued by Tyszkiewicz, among others, twice as high as 1595-1597.
Here, however, we have a very rare variety of it - with the titular SVE instead of SV. The difference in the rarity of these varieties is well illustrated by a study by Marek Kaleniecki, in which he arrived at 13 listings of ducats with SV, and only 2 with SVE.
A natural piece, slightly bent, with a nice, light sheen.
