The lowest denomination of coins of John Casimir. Minted at only one mint, in that one year!
The Lithuanian two-denarii of this king are very rare numismats typologically. This was an issue on the initiative of the Grand Treasurer of Lithuania, Michael Gedeon Tryzna. In 1652, he opened a mint in Vilnius and, "unconcerned" with the new minting ordinance, began minting denominations ranging from sixpence to two-denarii, with a lower proof than the new ordinance.
This is a non-legend coin with the value (1/360 of a thaler) expressed on the reverse, between the Lithuanian coat of arms and the Gozdawa coat of arms.
The nicest piece of this denomination we had on offer.
