An iconographically beautiful token commemorating the coronation of Wladyslaw as king of Poland.
The work of the Bydgoszcz mint, made with two-ducat stamps, distributed to guests and the public gathered at the coronation in Wawel Cathedral.
As Jaroslaw Dutkowski describes their iconography,"this knight, with attributes of victory and fame, is King Ladislaus IV. The obelisk, in turn, is a reference to Caesare Ripa's emblems, in which he symbolized a monument to the glory of princes and constancy of faith. So here we have a lecture describing what kind of king Vladislav IV will be, a warrior and a just ruler."
A variation with a knight with wings.
A very rare item.
Obverse: royal regalia (crown, apple and crossed sword with scepter) above a richly decorated cartouche with inscription:
VLADISLAVS IV CORONATVS REGEM POL ET M D L ANNO 1633 DIE 6 FEB
Ladislaus IV crowned king of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, year 1633, on February 6.
Reverse: under the sun with the inscription IHS obelisk on the base and standing beside it a knight in armor and crown, with wings, raising olive branches and a laurel wreath. In the rim:
HONOR VIRTVTIS PRAEMIVM
Honor is the reward of virtue
