The first vintage of Danzig's gold coins.
Danzig developed its minting activities in the last years of the reign of August III Sas. This was the city's response to the growing influx of low-value, licentious foreign coinage, including efraimek (a counterfeit coin of Frederick II, struck with Polish stamps). The city council ordered the minting of coins in denominations ranging from a shekel to a two-zloty coin. In the end, the highest denomination of the issue became zlotys (two-zlotys were only minted as a trial batch).
A variant with a larger wreath above the denomination.
